Speed Expected to Define This Weekend’s Indiana Girls’ State Champs (Psych Sheets)
One of the fastest high school meets in the country will be held this weekend when the Indiana Girls’ State Championships take place at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. Last weekend featured the state’s Sectional competitions and a slew of quick times were produced across the Hoosier State. Action in Indy will be headlined by Carmel High School’s pursuit of a 40th consecutive team title.
The Greyhounds’ streak of 39 straight state championships is the longest in the nation, and the longest of any sport contested at the high school level. Coach Chris Plumb’s squad will bring a mixture of power and depth to Indianapolis, led by Tennessee recruit Molly Sweeney and sophomore Ellie Clarke.
Sweeney is the No. 2 seed in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.63, with Valparaiso’s Maddie Moreth on top of the psych sheet at 59.91. Sweeney is also seeded third in the 100 butterfly, where Carroll’s Jordyn Glassley is the top seed at 52.99. Glassley is the top seed in the 200 IM at 1:57.72. As for Clarke, she is seeded first in the 100 backstroke in 52.65.
Molly Wolf of Fishers is the top seed in the distance-freestyle events, thanks to entry times of 1:46.51 in the 200 freestyle and 4:44.75 in the 500 freestyle. Kate Fetters is seeded first in the sprint freestyles, behind a 22.85 in the 50 distance and a 49.28 in the 100 distance.
