Stan Wawrinka announced on social media on Friday that 2026 will be his last year on Tour.
The Swiss player has won 16 tour-level titles, including three major trophies, and rose to a career-high No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
โONE LAST PUSH,โ Wawrinka wrote. โEvery book needs an ending. Itโs time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player. 2026 will be my last year on tour.โ

Known for possessing one of the most elegant one-handed backhands in the game, Wawrinkaโs career hit new heights in the middle of the 2010s, winning trophies at the Australian Open in 2014, Roland Garros in 2015 and the US Open in 2016.
Wawrinka has reached the Nitto ATP Finals on four occasions, highlighted by three consecutive semi-final runs from 2013-15. He has earned at least three Lexus ATP Head2Head wins against each member of the Big Three โ Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic โ and defeated former World No. 1 Andy Murray 10 times.

With 582 tour-level wins, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Wawrinka is fourth on the list for the most among active players, just one victory behind third-placed Gael Monfils.
Wawrinkaโs highlights representing Switzerland came at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he partnered Federer to claim the gold medal in the menโs doubles event. He also played a crucial role in Switzerlandโs 2014 Davis Cup triumph.
Wawrinka won his first ATP Tour title in Umag in 2006 and captured his latest trophy in Geneva in 2017, though he has since reached finals at Roland Garros (2017), Rotterdam (2019), Antwerp (2019) and Umag (2023).
The 40-year-old is set to open his final season in Perth at the United Cup, which begins 2 January.
