Star Pumas Fly Half out of Australian Tour

by

Star Pumas fly half Tomás Albornoz has been officially ruled out of the upcoming Australian tour. Argentina will  face the Wallabies in Townsville on September 06 and Sydney on September 13. The matches are round three and four fixtures of the 2025 Rugby Championship.

Tomás Albornoz started the round one and round two matches against New Zealand in Córdoba and Buenos Aires. El Tucumano was injured early on  in the match in Buenos Aires on Saturday. It saw Juan Cruz Mallía momentarily moving from fullback before Santiago Carreras entered from the replacements bench.

Albornoz was hurt following a carry. The following ruck saw a collision with the Puma suffering a traumatic dislocation of the fifth finger of his left hand. With him now out of the test matches in Townsville and Sydney, Felipe Contepomi will need to make adjustments.

Santiago Carreras is the likely player to start at fly half in place of Albornoz. Contepomi also has rookie Nicolás Roger to call-upon. Roger started against Uruguay in the home victory over Los Teros in Salta in July.

An additional possibility comes in the form of Gerónimo Prisciantelli. The 25-year-old Puma in waiting is on Contepomi’s roster but is uncapped. Prisciantelli has been consistently on the roster since last November but is yet to be capped due to minor injuries.
