Former Scarlets and Dragons centre Steff Hughes has retired from playing professional rugby aged 31 to concentrate on coaching full-time.
The former Wales Under-20 cap began his career at Llanelli and made his senior debut for Scarlets in 2013, going on to make 104 appearances for the west Wales region.
During his time at Parc y Scarlets he was part of the team that won the Pro14 title in 2014 and captained the side in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
In 2022 Hughes joined Dragons and was made captain for the 2023-24 season. The following season, in November 2024, he left Rodney Parade to take up a player-coach role with Old Glory DC in Major League Rugby (MLR) in the United States of America.
“It’s time for me to retire from playing professional rugby,” Hughes confirmed on social media.
