Steph Curry Opens Up on LaMelo Ball Conversation

by

Stephen Curry revealed after Golden State’s New Year’s Eve win over Charlotte that LaMelo Ball has reached out to him privately, seeking guidance on a concern that has followed the Hornets star throughout his young career: recurring ankle injuries.

Curry was asked by by reporters whether Ball had contacted him specifically about managing ankle issues that can derail long-term development, speaking to reporters following the Warriors’ 132-125 victory.

“Yeah, he’s reached out,” Curry said. “We haven’t been able to connect specifically on what he can do. But I know he’s seen stuff that I’ve talked about, and actually, Q, who’s not here anymore but was part of their training staff the last couple of years, was with us at Team USA last year. I think there’s been a little bit of just conversational.”

Curry’s experience gives his advice added weight.

Early in his NBA career, ankle injuries were so severe that they threatened his future in the league and directly impacted his first major contract with Golden State.

That history makes him a natural resource for a player like Ball, who has missed extended stretches in multiple seasons due to similar issues.

Curry also explained that the connection between the two guards goes beyond a single conversation. His brother, Seth Curry, played alongside Ball last season and has already acted as a bridge between them.

“Seth was texting me last year, trying to give him some guidance,” Curry said. “So hopefully, at some point, there’ll be more hands-on experience or some things that I could offer.”
