Sydney Sixers opener Steve Smith hit a thumping six that landed on the roof of the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground during the Big Bash League (BBL) clash against Sydney Thunder on Friday, January 16. The right-handed batter smashed Nathan McAndrew and sent the ball 107 metres towards deep square leg.
The David Warner-led team posted a total of 186/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Warner smashed his second century of the season, scoring an unbeaten 110 off 65 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes. Nic Maddinson was the next best batter with 26 off 16 balls, including two fours and two sixes.

Steve Smith hit an unbelievable six that shocked everyone. He struck the ball cleanly from the middle of the bat, and it flew 107 metres before hitting the roof at the SCG.

N McAndrew bowled a 137 kmph length ball outside off stump. Smith went back, got into position, and swung hard across the line. The ball sailed over deep square leg and landed on the roof of the Brewongle Stand. It would have gone even farther if the roof was not there.
Smith stood and watched the ball, made his usual hand gesture, and smiled. The hit came as part of a hat-trick of boundaries. This was one of the biggest sixes seen at the SCG in recent times.

Steve Smith’s Blazing Century in Sydney Sixers’ Chase at the SCG
Steve Smith and Babar Azam gave Sydney Sixers a flying start in the chase of 190. The pair attacked from the outset and took the team to 50 by the end of the powerplay. Smith raced to 31 off just 13 balls, while Babar contributed 18 at the other end.
Smith then shifted gears and continued to dominate the bowlers at his home ground. He brought up his half-century in only 23 balls, showing excellent control and clean hitting. The SCG crowd responded loudly as he kept finding the boundary.
The right-hander went on to produce a stunning hundred off just 41 balls. He reached the milestone by guiding a single to long-on and then raised his bat to acknowledge the applause. Fans in the stadium rose to their feet to celebrate one of the finest knocks seen in the Big Bash League.

Steve Smith said that the massive six he hit travelled around 110 metres and added that the ball was slightly short, so he backed himself to launch it. Smith said the game was a must-win and expressed confidence about carrying the momentum forward.
“It was a nice wicket. Chasing 190, we had to get off to a nice start. Babar and I got off to a good start. Got in the Surge and got some away. I launched it and I probably think it went 110m. It was a bit shorter side and the wind going that way. The seamers were the right match-ups and I thought to launch a few.”
“We spoke at the 10-over mark. They said take the Surge straightaway. I said nah, I’ll take it after one over because I want to hit it at the short side. Happy to score 30 in that over. A must-win game for us. Looking forward to going down there and putting on a show.”
