Sun Belt suspends 13 players, including 1 for rest of season, because of postgame brawl between Texas State, Louisiana

The Sun Belt has handed out 13 suspensions, including one for the rest of the season, due to Saturday’s postgame brawl between Louisiana and Texas State football players after Louisiana’s 42-39 win.

The Sun Belt announced the disciplinary measures on Monday alongside a statement from commissioner Keith Gill.

“There is no place for this type of behavior in college football,” Gill said, per the statement. “This unfortunate postgame incident overshadowed what was a competitive regional rivalry game on the field.

“While the spirit of competition is central to what we do in college athletics, postgame actions like these will not be tolerated in the Sun Belt Conference.”

Louisiana safety Tyree Skipper is suspended for the rest of the 2025 season, including a potential bowl game. His teammates Courtline Flowers, Kody Jackson, Kailep Edwards, Collin Jacob, Evan Stroman and De’Antonio Lesueur are all suspended one game each.

For Texas State, linebacker Tymere Jackson is suspended for two games. Khamari Terrell, Justin DeLeon, Kyran Bourda, J.P. Deeter and Devarrick Woods all received one-game suspensions.

The fight broke out near midfield shortly after the conclusion of Saturday’s game. Several players from both teams engaged in the fight that went on for several minutes before it subdued.

Skipper (No. 4, red jersey), who received the rest-of-season suspension, is seen in the above video (8 seconds, left side of screen) swinging his helmet at Texas State players. The Sun Belt didn’t offer further explanation for the length of the suspensions other than it had made the decisions based on “the review of available video footage.”
