Mumbai will head into the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 without several key players. The Mumbai Cricket Association announced a 16-member squad for the playoffs, with Siddhesh Lad named as captain, while regular skipper Shardul Thakur will miss the matches after suffering a calf injury.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy has moved into the knockout stage after the league phase, with eight teams qualifying for the quarterfinals. Notably, several top Indian players returned to the 50-over tournament, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Rishabh Pant, following BCCI guidelines.

The team will go into the knockout stage without Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube. Rohit and Iyer are part of India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, while Suryakumar and Dube will return to the national team for the T20I series.

The team, which finished second in their group, will be led by Siddhesh Lad for the business end of the tournament. They have made a couple of changes to their squad, with all-rounder Atharva Ankolekar and fast bowler Mohit Avasthi brought in to replace Chinmay Sutar and Sylvester D’Souza.

Lad missed a large part of the league stage due to the presence of India internationals like Iyer, Suryakumar, and Dube. The experienced batter is now ready to take on the challenge of leading the team in the knockouts with a balanced squad.

Defending champions Karnataka will face the Siddhesh Lad-led team in the first quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru on Monday, January 12. Karnataka finished at the top of their group, while Mumbai secured second place to qualify for the knockouts.

Both teams have quality players who can change the game quickly. With strong squads on both sides, the match promises an exciting contest.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Enters Knockout Stage

A total of 38 teams featured in action across the domestic circuit in the List-A format. With only eight sides left in contention, the tournament has now entered its most competitive phase. The quarterfinal winners will move on to the semifinals, and the two teams that win there will earn a place in the final to fight for the title.

The teams that have qualified for the knockout stage are Delhi, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Punjab, Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha.

The quarterfinal matchups are Karnataka vs Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh vs Saurashtra, Punjab vs Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi vs Vidarbha. All four matches will be played at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, with two games scheduled on January 12 and the remaining two on January 13.
