Iga Swiatek notched her fifth consecutive win over Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-4, to reach the last eight at the Cincinnati Open on Wednesday afternoon.
“I was ready,” Swiatek deadpanned after reaching her 24th WTA 1000 quarterfinal. The third-ranked Pole improves to 46-12 on the season, as she bids for her 24th WTA title in the Queen City.
Swiatek will face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Anna Kalinskaya next.
Swiatek is the the youngest woman to reach the quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Open for three
consecutive years since Simona Halep (2013-2015).
“We played many tough matches, so I know Sorana can really hit the ball well – especially on faster surfaces,” Swiatek told the crowd. “I’m happy I was solid enough. I was trying to be proactive with my serve — not many of my first serves went in, but I was happy I was solid on my second serves.”
The Wimbledon champion, making her seventh appearance in Mason, Ohio, is aiming to reach her first Cincinnati final this week.
