Swimposium by Connecticut Swimming Brings Key Speakers, Big Audience, Including New USA Swimming CEO
The Connecticut Swimming Swimposium took place last week with an all-female lineup of speakers.
It was a two-day in-person event that included separate learning tracks for officials, athletes and coaches as well as Board and House of Delegates meetings.
“This was our first large scale in-person meeting since COVID and I couldn’t have been happier with the level of attendance and the energy the meeting generated. It was a perfect way to kick off our 25-26 Short Course season,” Connecticut Swimming General Chair Jeff Sargent said. “All the presenters struck just the right tone, focusing on being well prepared, working as a team and bouncing back from disappointment.
“The Swimposium set our LSC up for great success in the coming season.”
The multi-day event was organized and run by several female members of the board:
Board Leadership:
- Officials Track – Margy Sargent – Co-Chair Officials
- Athletes Track – Carlone Ward – Senior Athlete Rep and
- Caroline Gies – Junior Athlete Rep
- Coaches Track – Kristen Finnegan – Coach at Large and USA Swimming Women in Governance
Guest Speakers:
- Dana Covington, National Officials Committee – Chair
- Lisa Vetterlein, Paris Olympics and 2025 Singapore WC Starter
- Alexis Keto, Bolles School
- Jasmine Haas, Brain Waves Performance
It was such a success that new USA Swimming CEO Kevin Ring made an appearance, but in a non-official capacity.
“The incoming USA Swimming and USA Swimming Foundation CEO did join us for our social hour before the officials track. He was not on the session agenda and was keen to observe, respect our meeting timeline and not draw attention away from the speakers or learning session,” coach Greg Pinchbeck said.
