That was ugly
This game was not at close. UConn led 23-9 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. It was an ugly performance from the Trojans, who put up a much better fight against UConn in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Sizable gap
This game, along with the South Carolina loss last month, have highlighted a rather unfortunate reality: Right now, there is a sizable gap between USC and the top teams in the country. The Trojans still have plenty of time to turn things around, but right now, they simply look like a pretty good team—not a great one.
Struggling to shoot
USC shot just 30% from the field and 21% on three-point attempts. That is not going to be good enough to win against nearly any opponent, let alone a team as good as UConn.

Tip of the cap
Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap to your opponent. While USC certainly has a lot to improve, the fact of the matter is that UConn is an elite team. There is a reason that the Huskies are the defending national champions, undefeated, and ranked No. 1 in the country. The Trojans would have needed a nearly flawless performance to have any shot at beating them, and USC did not get anywhere close to that on Saturday.
Up next
USC will be back in action on Thursday night when the Trojans host Cal Poly at Galen Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Pacific time on Big Ten Plus.
