Ta’Niya Latson injury update: South Carolina star leaves game vs Providence

COLUMBIA โ€”ย South Carolina women’s basketball guard Ta’Niya Latson went down in the second quarter of the No. 3 Gamecocks matchup with Providence with an apparent ankle injury Dec. 28.

Latson had to be helped off the court, and didn’t put any pressure on her left foot. South Carolina announced she would not return to the game, according to the SEC Network broadcast.

The senior guard had 10 points and shot 4-of-5 from the field before exiting the game.

Latson leads the Gamecocks in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game, with 3.7 rebounds and four assists.

The Florida native was the 14th overall prospect in the Class of 2022 and transferred to South Carolina after spending her first three seasons at Florida State.

Latson averaged 21 or more points in each of her seasons atย Florida State. Latson led the nation in scoring last season with 25.2 points per game.

The Gamecocks are 12-1 and will start SEC play on Jan. 1 with a home game against Alabama.
