Tanner Bibee throws shutout vs. White Sox

by

CLEVELAND — Don’t look now, but may be finding his form just as the Guardians’ push for a postseason spot ramps up.

Bibee turned in his best start of the 2025 season on Friday, when he threw his first career shutout to lead the Guardians to a 4-0 win over the White Sox at Progressive Field. Bibee struck out 10 and allowed just two singles and a hit by pitch on 103 pitches (74 strikes).

sealed the shutout with a game-ending diving catch to rob Lenyn Sosa for the final out of the ninth inning.

Bibee (who delivered his second straight quality start) became the first Guardians pitcher to throw a shutout since Zach Plesac on Sept. 10, 2019, against the Angels.

The Guardians (76-71) improved to 8-4 in September as they won for the seventh time over their past eight games. Cleveland is three games behind the Mariners and Astros (who are each 79-68) for the final American League Wild Card spot — pending the outcomes of Seattle and Houston’s games on Friday.

It has been a frustrating season for Bibee, who entered the season as Cleveland’s ace but has gone through stretches of inconsistency and carried a 4.69 ERA over 28 starts into Friday.

Friday marked Bibee’s fourth career double-digit strikeout start and his second of 2025. He punched out 10 on June 20 against the A’s in his other complete game of the season, that time in a losing effort.
