Teen Tien Reaches Metz Final, Norrie Next – Tennis Now

Learner Tien started his season on a high note, earning a Top-5 win on his Australian Open debut with a massive upset of Daniil Medvedev en route to a fourth-round appearance.

Tien became the youngest man to defeat at Top-5 player in Australian Open history with the win. He was ranked 121 at the time. 

Ten months later the 19-year-old Southern Californian is finishing his season on a high as well. On Friday in Metz, France, he took out Ukranian Vitaliy Sachko to become the fourth-youngest and first American finalist in Moselle Open history, 6-1, 6-4. 

Tien will take on Cameron Norrie in a battle of southpaws in Saturday’s final. 

Norrie took out Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 6-2. 6-4 to reach his 16th career ATP final and return to the Metz final for the second time in two years. The Brit is the first player to reach back-to-back finals in Metz since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2011-2013). 

The 38th-ranked American, who also reached the Beijing final this fall, joins Joao Fonseca as the second teenager to reach two ATP finals in 2025. He is up to No.31 in the ATP live rankings as of Friday evening. 

Only Richard Gasquet (18 years three months in 2004), Gael Monfils (19 years and 1 month in 2005) and Novak Djokovic (19 years and four months in 2006) have reached the final in Metz at a younger age.
