Kuldeep Yadav, the nightwatchman in the second innings, caused a huge stir with his defensive work rate in the first Indian innings; hence, the South African skipper, Temba Bavuma, looked elated on his dismissal on Day 5 of the Guwahati Test.

Having lost the Eden Gardens Test, India was desperate for a fightback in the second Test of the series against South Africa. However, Temba Bavuma and his men have shattered the hopes of millions of Indian fans.

Having set a mammoth target of 549 runs in front of the Indian batters, the Proteas had already rubbished their thought of winning this game and levelling the series. India could only save face by not losing the home series with a clean sweep.

Temba Bavuma mocks Kuldeep Yadav with savage celebration

India just had to play through the innings without having a go at the Proteas bowlers, since 549 never looked like a target worth chasing in a single day of the game. However, the Indian batters have even failed to retain their wickets.

Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav, the two left-handers who batted for the third wicket partnership, went on to face nearly 100 balls between them but scored only a handful of runs. With an overly defensive attitude, Simon Harmer finally found the space to rattle Kuldeep Yadav’s stumps.

After the ball crashed into the wickets, Temba Bavuma, who himself was fielding in the silly mid-off region, leapt and celebrated with closed fists thrown up in the air.

South Africa will end its 25-year drought to win a Test series in India in Guwahati

South Africa last won a series in the longest format of the game back in 2000. Back then, the captaincy passed on from Sachin Tendulkar to Sourav Ganguly, and since then, India has never lost a series to South Africa in India.

Even until last week, they had never won a single Test match since 2010. Only Last week in Kolkata, Temba Bavuma’s team defeated India in the longest format of the game. Bavuma is the first South African skipper to lift a major ICC title, which also came in 2025.

This will mark their first-ever win in a Test series after a period of nearly 25 years. This is also South Africa’s first victory in the sub-continent in the 21st century.

Temba Bavuma to be the first Proteas skipper to clean sweep India in this century

Temba Bavuma is on the verge of setting a record in the longest format of the game. Bavuma is the first Proteas skipper to win a series in the 21st century in India. Alongside that, he is the second South African captain to have won with a clean sweep over the Indian team.

Having won the first Test in Kolkata, they advanced to Guwahati for the second Test. With some stunning performances from Senuran Muthusamy, Marco Jansen, Tristan Stubbs and finally Simon Harmer, they dominated the Indians.

With five wickets down until Tea Break, South Africa could be considered the favourites to whitewash the Indian side.
