While some underestimate the role of a caddy in professional golf, it appears to be more important than many realize.
Famous golfer Scottie Scheffler played the last round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship without his caddy Ted Scott.
Many wondered what his game would look like and whether he would be as dominant as in previous tournaments.
While he didn't seem to miss Ted Scott too much, Scheffler showed his quality, but admitted there were things that were vastly different now that he was working with interim caddy Brad.
In an interview with the media, before the start of the second playoff tournament, the 29-year-old golfer had words of praise for Brad, who jumped in and helped him.
However, he admitted that there is a huge difference between a professional caddy and someone like Brad.
"I think — so like for instance, when you look at Sunday last week, I think that was definitely a bit more of a surprise for me and Ted. Brad did a great job stepping in, but Brad is a friend, he's not a professional caddie.
I think when you have a professional on the bag, it's a bit different, and Michael is someone — it's not that I don't trust Brad to do the numbers. It was just something that I think both of us probably thought it was a good idea to be double-checking each other.
Going into this week, it will be kind of more of a normal routine for me in terms of preparation over the shot and stuff like that. Doing the numbers myself, it's just a bit more work doing that over a four-day event, and that can take a toll on you. It's nice for me to be able to walk up to the ball, see the shot that I can imagine hitting, and then when the numbers come, we start trying to really dial it in.."- he said.
Sheffler is very motivated
Just like in previous tournaments, Scheffler has the same motive to win this time.
More than once in his career, he has shown that he is at his best when the most is expected of him.
Nevertheless, Scheffler is expected to be a dominant figure in every tournament, so we believe that he could win this time as well.
