The award honors the type of exemplary character and commitment to community, family and teammates demonstrated by Witten, the 2012 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner.

Carter, now in his third year at Tennessee, serves on the team’s leadership council and on the 2025 SEC Leadership Council.

He has recorded 49 tackles through five games and leads the SEC in 2025. Carter ranks eighth nationally in tackles.

The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award will receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school’s athletic scholarship fund, which will be made by the Jason Witten SCORE Foundation. The foundation is the official charity of Witten and his wife, Michelle Witten. It was founded in 2007, and has impacted tens of thousands of children in Tennessee and Texas over the past 16 years.
