CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge: Tennessee Men, Michigan Women Earn Title Rematches
The Tennessee men and Michigan women won their second meets of the day Saturday at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge to get reach Sunday’s final.
Michigan’s women’s team claimed a 27-17 win over Tennessee, which defeated Arizona State, 25-19, in the loser’s bracket final on Saturday. Michigan will face Virginia in Sunday’s final, while Tennessee and ASU will decide third place.
On the men’s side, Tennessee rebounded from a loss to Arizona State to hammer Michigan, 36-5. The Wolverines had edged out Virginia, 24-20.

Michigan 24, Virginia 20 (Men’s)
Michigan’s relays came through to get the win for the Wolverines. Jack Wilkening, Luka Mladenovic, Tyler Ray and Ole Mats Eidam went 1:24.11 to win the 200 medley relay. The Wolverines’ A relay edged Virginia by a tenth, thanks in part to Ray’s 19.16 fly split. Michigan’s B relay got the point by .02 seconds for third.
On the other end, the margin was .09 seconds for Michigan’s 200 free relay in 1:16.83. Ray (19.02), Wilkening, Eidam and Antoine Sauve won.
Michigan cashed in the 500 free with a 1-2-3 finish, led by Lorne Wigginton’s 4:14.50. They did the same in the 200 breaststroke, led by Mladenovic’s 1:53.22, another sweep of the points.
Virginia got wins through the middle of the meet. Maximus Williamson went 1:41.61 in the 200 IM, then 41.88 in the 100 free. David King won the 200 free in 1:32.10 and the 200 back in 1:39.37. Jack Aikins’ 19.31 won the 50 free, the Cavaliers going 1-3-5. Thomas Heilman’s 1:39.09 edged Ray’s 1:39.60 in the 200 fly.
Tennessee 25, Arizona State 19 (Women’s)
Camille Spink and Ella Jansen led the Volunteers to a narrow victory.
Spink won the 50 free in 21.40, with Jillian Crooks finishing second and the Vols swimming the points in 1-2-5. Spink went 47.12 in the 100 free, a 1-2 with Julianna Bocska.
Jansen’s time of 1:55.55 won the 200 IM. She also went 4:40.59 in pulling away late in the 500 free. Spink anchored the winning 200 medley relay, joining Crooks, McKenzie Siroky and Emily Brown to go 1:36.28, Spink coming home in 21.22.
Brown won the 200 fly in 1:53.48. Emilie Fast claimed the 200 breast in 2:09.58.
Jordan Greber won the 200 free in 1:45.14 for ASU, a 1-3 result of swimmers in the 1:45s. Gerda Szilagyi won the 200 back in 1:55.22, a race with three swimmers in the 1:55s.
Tennessee 36, Michigan 5 (Men’s)
The Michigan men ran out of steam against the Vols. Gui Caribe and Pedro Sansone went 1-2 in both the 50 and 100 free, Caribe winning in 18.70 and 41.93. Nikoli Blackman was third in the 100 free after edging Koby Bujak-Upton in the 200 free with a 1:31.80. Bujak-Upton won the 500 in 4:16.21.
Ulises Saravia, Gabe Nunziata, Caribe and Sansone won the 200 medley relay in 1:23.77. Saravia, Ben Bricca, Nunziata and Kamal Muhammad cleaned up the 200 free relay in 1:19.64. Nunziata won the 200 breast in 1:53.12. Bricca claimed the 200 back in 1:40.82. Tony Laurito won the 200 IM in Nunziata’s stead, and Martin Espernberger claimed the 200 fly in 1:41.22.
Michigan 27, Tennessee 17 (Women’s)
Michigan hit hard early on in the meet. The Wolverines went 1-3 in the 200 medley relay, with Bella Sims, Letitia Sim, Brady Kendall and Leila Fack winning in 1:33.65. Stephanie Balduccini led a 1-2-3 in the 200 free to secure an early foothold in the meet, her winning time a 1:41.85.
Sims bested Ella Jansen in the 200 IM in a time of 1:54.59. She also bested Regan Rathwell in the 200 back in 1:51.96. Hannah Bellard went 4:35.55 in the 500 free, a 1-3-4 result.
Michigan had things sealed before a 200 free relay win, Lexi Greenhawt, Kendall, Fack and Balduccini going 1:25.99.
Camille Spink tried to keep Tennessee in it. She won the 50 free in 21.30, edging Kendall’s 21.44. She went 46.65 to win the 100 free, ahead of Balduccini’s 47.11.
Emily Brown won the 200 fly in 1:53.07. Emelie Fast won the 200 breast, a 1-3-4 for the Vols.
