Tennessee Swimming Sweeps Kentucky in SEC Showdown

The Tennessee men’s and women’s swimming and diving team hosted Kentucky for an SEC dual meet on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The Volunteers won the men’s meet 171.66-124.33 and the women’s meet 205.5-93.5 to sweep the day.

In the men’s meet, the 50 free had a three-way tie with Tennessee’s Pedro Sansone, Nikoli Blackman and Kentucky’s Falemana Tuufui all reaching the wall in 19.41.

Blackman won the 100 free in 42.34, ahead of Sansone (42.52) and Tuufui (43.06).

Tennessee’s Koby Bujak-Upton won the 200 free in 1:33.04. Ulises Saravia won the 100 back (45.83) and 200 back (1:42.42). Gabe Nunziata won the 100 breast (52.91). Martin Espernberger won the 200 fly (1:43.89) and 100 fly (47.13).

Bujak-Upton, Sansone, Ben Bricca and Blackman won the 400 free relay in 2:51.86.

Tennessee’s Bennett Greene won 1-meter diving (365.75). Frazer Tavener won 3-meter (410.25).

Kentucky’s Lysander Osman, Adomas Gatulis, Javier Lopez-Guillen and Tuufui won the 200 medley relay in 1:24.43, holding off Tennessee (1:24.58) as Gui Caribe had an 18.25 anchor split.

Kentucky’s Levi Sandidge won the 1000 free in 8:55.84. Gatulis won the 200 breast (1:56.77). Carson Hick won the 500 free in 4:18.57 ahead of Sandidge (4:18.72). Ryan Merani won the 200 IM (1:46.61) ahead of Nunziata (1:46.72).

In the women’s meet, Tennessee opened the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay. Lexi Stephens, McKenzie Siroky, Emily Brown and Emily Armen finished in 1:37.79.

Stephens won the 100 backstroke (52.67), going 1-2 with Jillian Crooks (52.81). Crooks won the 50 free in 22.37, just ahead of Armen (22.41).

Tennessee’s Camille Spink won the 200 free in 1:45.03 and 100 free (47.22). Simone Moll won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.36). Ella Jansen won the 200 butterfly (1:53.90) and 200 back (1:53.53). Julia Burroughs won the 500 free in 4:48.13. Amelia Mason won the 100 fly (53.81). Brown won the 200 IM (1:55.52).

Jansen, Brown, Burroughs and Armen won the 400 free relay in 3:16.21.

Tennessee’s Desharne Bent-Ashmeil won 3-meter diving with 344.78 points and 1-meter (314.63).

Kentucky’s Libby Grether won the 1000 free in 9:50.55. Olivia Stewart won the 200 breaststroke (2:11.57).
