Texas A&M basketball is off to an electric start, showcasing their tenacity in the first two games of the inaugural season under coach Bucky McMillan. He has brought in a number of veteran players to help ease the transition and demonstrate to recruits that his brand of basketball can be both successful and fun to play in. One of those players is forward Rashaun Agee.
Agee has been everything Coach Bucky has asked him to be early this season, averaging 14.0 points while shooting 70.6%. On Thursday night, Agee led the charge in the second half of the game against Texas Southern, which ultimately resulted in a 104–70 win at Reed Arena. However, his night was cut short when he was struck in the head under the basket, leaving him on the floor. The foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 1, and Agee was taken to the locker room with blood trickling down his face. He did not return to the game but still finished as the team’s leading scorer.

After the game, Coach McMillan provided an update on Agee’s condition.
“He’s at the ophthalmologist right now. Hopefully he gets that thing fixed. I joked with our staff, we have to sew him up because we’ve got a game to win on Sunday.”
While he was joking, the team will indeed face one of their tougher opponents on Sunday when they travel to Stillwater to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Having Agee on the court would be a big boost for the team’s development and cohesion on the road.
Rylan Griffen also spoke about Agee’s departure from the game and what he means to the team.
“He’s our leader. We got the win for him. We played better after he went down. He’s probably the most important player to the team as a leader. When he went down, we lost our leader, but we need him back for Sunday.”
Obviously, this early in the season, there’s no need to rush him back. However, if he’s ready to return, this would be the perfect opportunity to give him some valuable reps. He’s showing all the qualities you want from your captain, and if he can’t play on Sunday, there’s no doubt he’ll embrace his role as the team’s top cheerleader.
