Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) will host Miami (FL) (10-2) next Saturday afternoon during the first round of the College Football Playoff, and even with all the chaos surrounding College Station, head coach Mike Elko and his staff are continuing to contact prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, making significant headway with another rising defensive recruit out of California.
After it was revealed that the Aggies are still in play for 2027 four-star wide receiver Quentin Hale, fellow four-star California-based prospect, standout defensive lineman Myels Smith, who has starred for Inglewood High School since his breakout 2024 junior season, has placed Texas A&M in his final six program list, joining Nebraska, Cal, USC, Washington, and Arizona State.

Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer have been finalists for nearly every top-ranked defensive tackle, while constantly identifying talent that the rest of the SEC has failed to see early on in the process. After recording 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 20 tackles for loss, Smith’s 6’3″, nearly 300-pound frame pairs well with his first-step quickness of the snap, overwhelming offensive linemen on every down.
It’s no wonder Smith named the Aggies as one of his finalists after attending Texas A&M’s 31-30 comeback win over South Carolina on November 15, watching A&M’s defensive line dominate in the trenches, and not allowing the Gamecocks to score in the second half.
According to 247Sports, Smith is currently positioned as the 33rd-ranked defensive lineman and the 26th-ranked prospect in California.
