Texas A&M is aggressively pursuing rising 2027 3-star CB

by

Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class is beginning to take shape, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff have made several visits during the month. While hosting a long list of 2027 and 2028 prospects as soon as the new year began, the inclement weather has placed a stop to most campus recruiting visits until further notice.

Focused on a core group of priority prospects in the 2027 cycle, new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill and offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins recently visited 2027 four-star quarterback commit Jayce Johnson, whose star continues to rise, while the No. 1-ranked prospect in the class, five-star cornerback John Meredith, and five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson are the other two names to watch moving forward.

Another rising cornerback prospect, three-star Houston, Texas native Trenton Blaylock, is continuing to weigh his options, but during a recent interview with Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman, Blaylock revealed that Vanderbilt, Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Texas A&M are the schools to watch, while the Commodores are currently leading the pack.

However, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko’s background in the secondary remains a stark advantage for elite corner and safety prospects, and, due to the weather this weekend, Elko reportedly visited Blaylock at Atascocita High, as the bond between player and coach continues to grow stronger.

“They’ve been recruiting me heavily these past couple of weeks, especially,” Blaylock stated. “What they’ve done is come back-to-back weeks to sit down and talk to me, and that definitely means a lot to me. They also just told me a lot about A&M as a whole and to sit down in front of a guy like Coach Elko and him taking time to be with me just shows how much of a priority I am. They want me to commit soon and be a part of the best overall DB class in Texas A&M history, so that definitely intrigued me.”

Texas A&M’s 2027 defensive back class already features commitments from blue-chip four-star safeties Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell, combined with four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, and four-star athlete/cornerback Hakeem Frampton, who is also on the rise.

If the Elko can land Blaylock’s commitment, Texas A&M’s future secondary is too talented not to excel under Elko and Hemphill’s defensive structure and playcalling.

According to Rivals, Blaylock is currently positioned as the 44th-ranked cornerback and 64th-ranked prospect in Texas.
