While the 2028 season is still years away, the Longhorns have gotten an early start on their recruiting efforts. On Tuesday, Steve Sarkisian and his staff extended an offer to four-star defensive lineman Asher Ghioto. The Jacksonville native is one of the best players in his class and is in high demand.
Currently, the Bolles High star has offers from Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, and Boston College. For programs who are looking to add a star to their 2028 defense, the Florida native has been in high demand. That is partly due to a stellar 2024 campaign win which he thrived regardless of the opponent.
During his freshman campaign, Ghioto recorded 66 total tackles and seven sacks. The potential future Longhorn also added 21 tackles for a loss to his resume. Due to his stellar play, Ghioto saw his stock skyrocket, and scouts nationwide took notice.

As the recruiting season begins to ramp up, Ghioto is ranked as the third-best defensive lineman in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the seventh-best player from Florida and the 12th-best player in the nation. If he can build on his success, Ghioto’s stock will continue to rise.
Although the Longhorns have yet to secure a commitment from a player in the 2028 class, they have been busy connecting with some of the top players on the market. They have made offers to four-star recruits Neimann Lawrence, Micah Rhodes, Brysen Wright, and King Pitts. That list should grow over the next few months.
With no commitment date set the Longhorns have plenty of time to make their best pitch. Once they get Ghioto to campus for a visit, they will be able to show him what his future as a Longhorn could hold.
