Texas Football signs Michigan State TE through transfer portal

Michigan State starting tight end Michael Masunas announced his transfer commitment to Texas on Monday. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. The redshirt junior has has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-5 TE had 24 catches for 270 yards and three touchdowns in 25 career games with a dozen starts. At 259 pounds, he should provide Texas quarterback Arch Manning a big target next year. Masunas is a former three-star recruit from Arizona. He redshirted his first year on campus in East Lansing in 2022. His playing time was mostly on special teams in 2023. In 2024, Masunas started four games before a season-ending injury. Masunas rebounded to post career highs with 19 catches for 232 yards and three TDs in 2025.

40 players have hit the transfer portal at Michigan State since coach Pat Fitzgerald was hired.

Texas has now signed five players from the portal. Texas signed nose tackle Ian Geffrard from Arkansas, Memphis Tigers kicker Gianni Spetic, New Mexico long-snapper Trey Dubuc and punter Mac Chiumento from Florida State.
