Injuries have been a major factor for the 19th-ranked Texas Tech basketball team so far this season. It will remain the case for the rest of the way.
Grant McCasland provided an injury update to center Luke Bamgboye, the VCU transfer who left Tuesday’s game against Northern Colorado with an apparent leg injury. Bamgboye stayed down on the court holding his left leg after closing out to contest a 3-point attempt. He walked off the floor under his own power midway through the first half but did not return to the bench in the second.

McCasland said Thursday that he doesn’t have a full diagnosis for Bamgboye just yet, but provided a bit of clarity for the immediate future.
“I don’t anticipate him playing in this game against Duke,” McCasland said, “but I don’t think, hopefully, it’s nothing significant that we’ll lose him for the season.
“We’re at a point (where) we’re just trying to evaluate it and we’ll get some results back.”
Bamgboye has appeared in seven of Tech’s first 11 games this season with four starts, missing the first chunk of the year with a lower-body injury and last week’s game against Arkansas due to concussion protocol. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game, also registering 12 blocks on the defensive end.

The Red Raiders (8-3) are heading to New York City to take on third-ranked Duke in Madison Square Garden. The Blue Devils have yet to lose this season and feature national player of the year favorite Cameron Boozer, who leads the country, averaging 23.3 points per game.
