Another Vintage Miami Performance
The ‘Canes had me fooled. I wasn’t a believer heading into the season, but watching them dominate both lines of scrimmage had me thinking they were the clear class of the ACC. That unraveled on Friday night, as Miami’s tackles struggled to protect Carson Beck all night against Louisville. The Cardinals were able to bring consistent pressure, leading Beck to throw four interceptions on the night. The final pick came on a potential game-winning drive with under a minute to give the ‘Canes their first loss of the season. Thanks to some tricky tie-breaker scenarios, Miami is no longer a shoe-in for the ACC Championship Game.

Big Game Brohm
On the flip side of the Miami loss, Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm is now 4-4 against opponents ranked in the top five. This is quite the impressive feat considering these came as coach of Purdue and Louisville, and all four victories occurred when his team was unranked. This may be an interesting note for Penn State fans, considering all the discourse on coaches records in big games…
The Brian Kelly Era Might Be Over at LSU
LSU was a trendy national title pick heading into the season with an improved defense and an offense that was expected to light up scoreboards. While the defense has improved by leaps and bounds, the Tigers offense has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season. LSU dropped their second game of the season against Vanderbilt on Saturday, and things won’t get much easier with its next two games against #3 Texas A&M and #4 Alabama. Brian Kelly was brought in to help them get over the hump and become a regular national title contender again. That hasn’t happened as the Tigers seem likely to be set for its fourth consecutive season watching the playoffs from home with Kelly at the helm.

Texas Tech Isn’t a Sure Thing
The Red Raiders not only plunked down a massive amount of resources, but also brought in the right players for the right system. It seemed like they were a lock to run away with a Big XII championship, but Arizona State had other plans. The reigning conference champs had a masterful two-minute drill to score in the closing seconds and hand the Red Raiders their first loss of the season. The Big XII, just like the ACC, is heading for an exciting stretch run for the title.
Another Florida State Collapse
You probably didn’t see the thrilling conclusion of the Florida State-Stanford game that wrapped up at 2:30 a.m. ET. The Cardinals stopped the ‘Noles at the one-yard line to preserve a 20-13 victory and hand Florida State its fourth consecutive loss. It’s been all downhill since the ‘Noles 13-0 season in 2023, which was followed by a shocking 2-10 record in 2024. The week one win over Alabama seems like eons ago as Florida State is in the process of yet another collapse.
