The Indiana Fever took on the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon. Fever guard Sophie Cunningham suffered a gruesome-looking leg injury early in the first half. Cunningham, traded from the Phoenix Mercury to the Indiana Fever this offseason, was down in pain for several minutes, before leaving the court. She was unable to return.

Indiana announced during the game that Cunningham was out due to a leg injury. She will undergo further testing on Monday morning. Fans are bracing for the worst, but hoping for good news.

“Injury Update: Sophie Cunningham (right knee) will not return to today’s game at Connecticut,” they announced.

Cunningham was injured when she made contact with Connecticut Sun guard Bria Hartley, who was driving into the paint.

The University of Missouri guard was in serious, serious pain.

Some WNBA fans want Bria Hartley to be kicked out of the league

Hartley, 32, has been involved in some incidents with multiple WNBA players, including Sophie Cunningham, Angel Reese and Rebecca Allen.

Fans are calling for her to be kicked out of the league.

“Why is Bria Hartley still in the WNBA? Angel Reese, Rebecca Allen, Sophie Cunningham, Among others. Why have the Sun front office, coaches & Cathy done nothing? Get her the hell out of here,” one fan wrote.

Cunningham update should come on Monday

An official injury update for Sophie Cunningham should come on Monday, August 18. She is reportedly set to undergo some testing.

An MRI is scheduled for tomorrow.

“No further update on Sophie Cunningham’s right knee. She has an MRI scheduled for Monday,” Fever reporter Scott Agness shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Fever are expected to announce Cunningham’s official injury diagnosis and potential recovery timeline on Monday, August 18.
