The Big 12 will be without one of its rising stars this basketball season.

Cincinnati guard Jizzle James has been dismissed from the team, Bearcats head coach Wes Miller shared in a statement Tuesday.

“Jizzle James has been dealing with personal issues throughout the summer. We removed him from the team last month,” Miller said. “He is currently not a member of our basketball program. As this is a personal matter, I will have no further comment at this time.”

James, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James, was an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection last season as a sophomore, averaging 12.7 points and 3.5 assists per game.

Two of James’ best games of the past season came against conference foes from the Beehive State. Against BYU on Feb. 8, he scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers, while he dropped 25 points against Utah on Feb. 11 along with six assists.

A way-too-early Big 12 preview from CBS Sports in June listed Cincinnati as a tournament bubble team for 2025-26, but without James, the Bearcats’ fortunes may slip further away.
