In the middle of his best MMA stretch in years, Tim Elliott says he has to pump the brakes for a couple months.
Elliott on Saturday posted on social media that he broke his “bitch ass leg” – the left one – when he was kicked by Kai Asakura during their flyweight fight at UFC 319 in August. Elliott won the fight late in the second round with a guillotine choke, but apparently fought at least half the bout with the fracture.
The MMA rumor mills had been buzzing about a possible 125-pound matchup between Elliott (21-13-1 MMA, 10-11 UFC) and Charles Johnson (18-7 MMA, 7-5 UFC), but Elliott posted that his time frame is at least eight weeks out for recovery.
For his part, Johnson seemed amenable to a future matchup. He’s coming off a bonus-winning finish of his own – a knockout of Lone’er Kavanagh in Shanghai just a week after Elliott’s win in Chicago.
Elliott has won six of his past eight, including back-to-back bonus-winning submissions. Johnson has won five of six at flyweight, including three bonuses.
