Tom Aspinall rips ‘cheat’ Ciryl Gane, vows revenge after eye surgery

by

Tom Aspinall appears fed up with Ciryl Gane, and promises to get one back when they meet inside the octagon again.

Their first meeting for the heavyweight title at UFC 321 ended abruptly in the first round after a severe eye poke from Gane. Aspinall was unable to continue, leading to a no contest. Since that moment in October, Aspinall has continued to have trouble with his eyes and has had multiple medical exams.

Aspinall’s timetable for a return is unclear, and according to a fiery reply to a Gane social media post, he is heading for surgery.

Gane’s social media post showed training footage alongside fellow UFC heavyweight Tai Tuivasa.

“Still no date or opponent yet… but we keep grinding and training hard before the holidays 💪🔥 with my man @bambamtuivasa,” Gane wrote in the caption.

The seemingly innocuous post prompted Aspinall to snap off in the replies.

“No sh*t there’s not a date yet. I’m not medically cleared to fight and about to have surgery thanks to your disgusting fingernails 👍 I’ll be back to smash your face in soon you cheat,” Aspinall replied.

While Aspinall has dealt with the situation with humor at times, he has also shown frustration in the aftermath of UFC 321. Aspinall has consistently shared medical updates ever since. He stated he was diagnosed with bilateral traumatic Brown’s syndrome, which is a rare condition that affects both eyes, restricting movement. It’s unclear how long a surgery would keep him out of action.

As of now, the UFC has made no decision to implement an interim heavyweight title while Aspinall deals with his injuries.
