There has been a lot of criticism directed towards TNA since both of their top titles are with NXT talent instead of TNA talent. However, Tommy Dreamer has now defended the collaboration between WWE and TNA.
While speaking to Gabby AF, Tommy Dreamer addressed online criticism about the NXT and TNA partnership, saying that many fans complain about the imbalance in having two NXT talents holding titles.
Dreamer explained that unexpected changes are part of the business, noting that when Ash by Elegance informed the company she couldn’t wrestle and had to forfeit her title, adjustments had to be made.
Dreamer praised Kelani Jordan, calling her a great wrestler who’s now gaining more recognition within NXT. He pointed out that her performance in the battle royal, where she and Leiling Lee were the final two competitors was excellent, and Jordan rightfully earned the title win.
“You know, there are a lot of haters online that like to talk about the imbalance of what this partnership’s doing — like having the title on two NXT talents instead of others. But card subject to change is a real thing. When Ash by Elegance notified the company that she could no longer wrestle and had to forfeit the title, you have to make certain pivots.
Kelani Jordan, I think, is a great wrestler. It also gives her something meaningful in NXT’s universe. In her first showing, not only did she have an excellent spot in the battle royal, but the last two women were her and Leiling Lee, and that match was awesome. They put in some real time, and Kelani came out the better woman.”
Dreamers also mentioned that haters will hate, but stated how successful the NXT–TNA partnership has been. Dreamer said that every time WWE promotes or mentions TNA online, it creates huge media value, worth millions of dollars in exposure. He described the situation as both good business and something exciting for fans.
“So yes — and listen, haters are gonna hate, which is fine. I look at it like this: Trick has been a proven draw, and this whole thing between TNA and NXT has been a great collaboration. If anyone wants to talk money and exposure — every time WWE retweets or mentions TNA, think about how much that would cost if it were a sponsored promotion.
If WWE tweeted about your Gabby AF podcast, for example, it would be worth millions upon millions of dollars in media value alone. That’s the business side of it — but I also look at it from a fan’s point of view.”
Tommy Dreamer clearly defended the WWE–TNA partnership, saying it’s all about balancing storytelling, business and what fans want. While some people think having NXT champions hold TNA titles is a bad move, Dreamer believes it actually helps everyone and that’s not going to change.
