Tommy Fleetwood is one of the more positive surprises of last season.
The English golfer has long borne the pressure of not winning the PGA Tour title, and after his first victory last season, Fleetwood shared enormous happiness and attracted even more attention.
The victory at the Tour Championship opened many doors for him, and most expect the Englishman to be a dominant figure this year as well.
Fans are wondering if Tommy Fleetwood can get involved in the race between Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler and possibly disrupt the plans of the leading duo.
The English golfer shared his views on Scheffler and McIlroy at a press conference ahead of the Dubai Invitational, saying he would like to challenge both of them.
“I would love to [challenge them]. There is a clear gap; those two guys are definitely the best golfers in the world,” Fleetwood said.
I’m just one of the players in the pack behind that has some catching up to do there. Look at every aspect of my game, where I can improve, where I can pick up the smallest amount of shots on those guys. But it’s an amazing challenge, if you think of it like that."- he said.
Fleetwood shares his goals
Tommy Fleetwood openly confirms that he is motivated to challenge them and compete with them over the long term, but on the other hand he is aware that it is a difficult task that requires time. The experienced golfer focuses on his game and training and believes that this is an ideal opportunity to achieve even greater success in his career.
“Challenging the top two players in the world, I’m not going to say that that’s something that I’m not focused on and not interested in. Of course you are, and you want to see where you can get to, but that’s a long road ahead. That’s not going to happen next week or in a couple of months."- he said.
