Adam Livingston talked trash about his past training with Tommy Gantt ahead of their battle for a UFC contract at Dana Whiteβs Contender Series 82, but the reality was much different.
Gantt (11-0) was relentless in his pursuit of the takedown from the opening bell of the lightweight bout Tuesday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Livingston (5-1) did all he could to defend them, grabbing the fence three times and getting a point deduction. Gantt got him down, though, and quickly locked in a guillotine choke from top position for the tap at 2:47 of Round 1.

After the win, the proud 32-year-old was met outside the octagon by his coach Daniel Cormier, then made his case to UFC CEO Dana White for a contract.
“Usually I don’t go for the submission and I try to beat the guy up, but a win is a win,” Gantt said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I think I bring a little bit of everything. Striking, grappling or whatever it takes to get a guy out of there. Let’s do it.”
