Tony Khan is setting the record straight โ Mercedes Monรฉ didnโt bury anyone during her 13-title run at all.
During a conversation with Jon Alba, Khan directly responded to criticism from fans whoโve accused Monรฉ of โburyingโ other women in the AEW and indie scenes during her dominant 13-title reign across multiple promotions.
โMercedes had a hell of a yearโฆ Is it strange to hear when all these fans โ because thereโs a lot of them โ say, โAh, she has creative control, sheโs burying all these other womenโ? Meanwhile, when you win 13 belts or whatever the number is, youโve got to lose all 13 eventually, too,โ Alba asked.
Khan made it clear that it couldnโt be further from the truth and gave full support for the CEO of AEW.
โMercedes is tremendous to work with, and I had been adamant about building Mercedes up and having Mercedes continue to win and win and win,โ Khan explained. โThen finally, you have this matchโฆ Mercedes versus Toni Storm โ the TBS champion versus the world champion for the world titleโฆ and Timeless Toni Storm picked up that great win.โ
Khan stated that the booking was always strategic and story-driven, not self-indulgent. He praised Monรฉโs chemistry with Toni Storm, calling their match a main-event caliber performance and promising thereโs more to come:
โThey have incredible chemistryโฆ I would expect to see them involved again down the line because theyโre two of our greatest starsโฆ thereโs so much meat on that bone.โ
This defense came just days after Mercedes Monรฉ addressed the critics herself in Monรฉ Mag, throwing shade at those who tried to question her path.
โWhy would I acknowledge the critics? The goal is shown. Itโs been shown. For the people that canโt see it, itโs on them.โ
While Monรฉ has spent 2025 dominating the globe, sheโs also been a strong supporter of lesser-known talent, naming indie standouts like Denmarkโs Aliss Link, RevProโs Kanji, and Scotlandโs Emersyn Jayne as personal highlights. Sheโs used her reign not just for the limelight, but to share it with underrated women in the industry.
โAs the CEO of womenโs wrestling, I study my opponents like no other โ and I always find a way to win,โ Monรฉ said.
With Tony Khan officially putting the โburialโ rumors to rest and Mercedes Monรฉ standing firm in her legacy, the message is clear โ the 13-title reign wasnโt about ego, it was about evolution.
