Top 5 of the US LBM Coaches poll stays the same with Penn State suffering a massive drop

It was a quiet week in Eugene as the Oregon Ducks enjoyed a much-needed bye week, however, it was anything but quiet for the rest of college football.

We saw several teams lose for the first time and while the Top 5 of the US LBM Coaches poll remains the same, the rest of it sees a major reshuffling of the teams.

Oregon remains at No. 2 with the bye, but there was some speculation Miami might jump the Ducks after its 28-22 win at Florida State. The Hurricanes are still 41 points behind Oregon with Ohio State still at No. 1. Ole Miss and Texas A&M round out the Top 5.

As expected, Penn State dropped off a cliff as the Nittany Lions suffered a humiliating upset loss to previously winless UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Their 42-37 loss dropped Penn State 16 spots to No. 22. It’s shocking that just two weeks ago, they were ranked No. 3 and are now close to dropping out of the poll altogether.

ESPN GameDay is coming to Eugene to watch the Ducks host No. 7 Indiana, which moved up two spots on its bye week.

Alabama has seen a resurgence over the last few weeks and is ranked No. 8 in the latest poll, a number the Crimson Tide are more used to.

After Indiana at No. 7, Michigan is the next-ranked Big Ten team at No. 15, with Illinois moving up five spots to No. 17 after its 43-27 win at Purdue.
