LSU left a positive impact on the college football world with its week one victory at No. 4 Clemson. Per ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the purple and gold’s “early results were promising” following an offseason transformation.
“The Tigers spent about $18 million overhauling their roster this past offseason, with much of the investment being spent on defense,” Schlabach said.

The upset victory was the first week one win for LSU in five years. Coupled with several underdog victories across the SEC, the Tigers have separated themselves from the pack as a contender for championships. They pulled off a shocker, “against the defending ACC champions in a hostile road environment.”
“LSU limited Clemson to only 32 rushing yards and harassed quarterback Cade Klubnik for much of the night. Cornerback Mansoor Delane, a transfer from Virginia Tech, had an interception and received a game ball for his work in the secondary,” Schlabach said. “Along with NC State transfer Tamarcus Cooley and former Houston safety A.J. Haulcy, Delane vastly improved the back end of LSU’s defense, which has been the team’s trouble spot the past few seasons.”
Following the win, ESPN’s FPI gives LSU a 46.4% chance of making the playoff.
