The pressure for one Nebraska high school football team in 2025 is as big as any in the country. That is because they are not only the defending Class A state champions, they feature a roster loaded with Football Bowl Subdivision commits.

Millard South overcame a Week 1 defeat last season to win 12 in a row, highlighted by a 27-10 victory over Westside for the state championship. They are led by Alabama commit Jett Thomalla at quarterback of a team that scored over 40 points in 10 straight at one point in 2024.

Thomalla, though, is far from the only major Division I commit on the roster for first-year head coach Taylor Mendenhall. An assistant and alum of Millard South, Mendenhall replaces Ty Wisdom, who took over at Chandler High School in Arizona.

Along with Thomalla, defensive back Dayton Gaius-Anyaegbu and offensive lineman Carter Glab have committed to Army-West Point, as Fresno State has received commitments from defensive lineman Solomon Baker and tight end Dallas Gaius-Anynegbu.

Both Nelsyn Wheeler, a running back, and Landen Von Seggern, an offensive lineman, have committed to Illinois, as wide receiver Amarion Jackson will head to Iowa State next year. Another tight end, Isaac Jensen, has committed to Missouri.

At the Football Championship Subdivision level, defensive back Toris Rudd Jr. is off to North Dakota while both offensive lineman Antonio Harris and running back Gabe Prucha have committed to Augustana at the NCAA Div. II level. Daxton Williams, a linebacker, has committed to Minnesota State-Mankato at the NCAA Div. II level with defensive back Eli Mitchell joining him at Northwest Missouri State.

Thomalla threw 47 touchdown passes last year, as Jensen caught nine of them. Prucha had 17 rushing scores and Baker led the defense with eight sacks. Jensen averaged 66 yards receiving per game, with Jackson right behind him, as Prucha ran for over 80 per game.

The 2025 season for Millard South starts with one of its toughest games of the season as they take on Arbor View on Friday, August 29. They also play Millard South, Kearney, Millard North, Lincoln Southeast, Papillion-La Vista, Lincoln High, North Platte and Omaha Benson this regular season.
