A pair of Top 100 prospects — who also happen to be teammates! — kicked off the weekend with a potent 1-2 punch. Carson Benge and Jett Williams (Mets) combined for three extra-base hits and six knocks. Meanwhile, Brice Matthews (Astros) ran himself into his club’s record books, while Alex Freeland (Dodgers) flexed some muscle for a second consecutive night.
Carson Benge, OF, Syracuse (NYM No. 1/MLB No. 20)
The long-awaited breakout for Benge at Triple-A seems to have arrived. The 2024 first-rounder singled home a run in first at-bat and then did the same on a triple in his next plate appearance en route to tying his career high with four hits. It was Benge’s second multihit game since his promotion to Syracuse last month and first since Aug. 13. Despite struggling in September, the 22-year-old has slashed .283/.386/.470 with 46 extra-base hits, 86 runs scored and 71 RBIs across three Minor League levels this season. Gameday
Jett Williams, SS/OF/2B, Syracuse (NYM No. 2/MLB No. 29)
Williams has picked up his production over the past few days, culminating with a homer and triple in his latest performance. The 21-year-old cracked his 16th roundtripper of the season and sixth since joining Triple-A Syracuse last month. Williams has collected four extra-base hits and five RBIs in his past six games, helping boost his OPS to .829 across two Minor League levels in 2025. Gameday
Alex Freeland, SS/3B, Oklahoma City (LAD No. 3/MLB No. 42)
Freeland left the yard for a second consecutive day and for the third time in five games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Central Florida product is wrapping up a strong campaign, which included his first taste of Major League action. Freeland has hit safely in 10 of his past 12 games and has 16 homers and 82 RBIs in 106 Minor League contests this season. Gameday
Spencer Jones, OF, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY No. 3/MLB No. 86)
Jones’ didn’t secure a pair of personal accolades in his latest outing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but the 24-year-old still enjoyed a strong game. Sitting one homer shy of the Minor League lead and two stolen bases short of a 30/30 season, Jones doubled twice and reached base three times in five plate appearances. The Vanderbilt product has rebounded from a poor August to hit safely in 14 of 16 games this month. Gameday
Brice Matthews, 2B, Sugar Land (HOU No. 1/MLB No. 92)
Matthews not only came through with a productive three-RBI night, he made some club history in the process. The Nebraska product and 2023 first-rounder lofted a sacrifice fly and plated two more runs with a double while also swiping two bases. His first of two steals on the night was his 39th of the season, establishing a new Triple-A Sugar Land single-season record. The 23-year-old has 15 RBIs in 17 games this month and owns an .827 OPS for the season. Gameday
