Trae Young Disappointed Hawks Havent Extended His Contract

by

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young is reportedly disappointed that he hasn’t reached an agreement on a contract extension yet. Young plans to play out this season without an extension, then to figure things out in the offseason. Young has a $48.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

Young is eligible to sign a four-year, $222.4 million extension this summer. The veteran point guard could qualify for a larger contract, worth up to $335.9 million over five years, if Young makes an All-NBA team this season.

Atlanta has retooled their roster this summer by adding Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Asa Newell. The Hawks will also welcome back Jalen Johnson, after he missed the back half off last season due to injury.

Young’s contract isn’t the only one in question for the Hawks. Backcourt mate Dyson Daniels is eligible to sign a rookie scale extension. Daniels is eligible to reach agreement until just before the start of the season. If no agreement is reached on an extension, Daniels will be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
