Trey Yesavage to be in Blue Jays bullpen for ALDS Game 4

by

will be in the Blue Jays’ bullpen for Game 4 of the ALDS against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, Toronto manager John Schneider said Wednesday.

The rookie right-hander dominated New York in his Game 2 start, throwing 5 1/3 hitless innings and striking out 11, a franchise postseason record. He pitched in relief three times in the Minors this year, his first season in professional baseball, including as recently as Sept. 7 for Triple-A Buffalo. He allowed four runs (three earned) in 8 1/3 innings in those appearances.

Schneider said Kevin Gausman, an option to start a potential Game 5, will throw a “modified bullpen” on Wednesday, adding it would have to be a “very unique” spot for Gausman to pitch in relief, with Yesavage a likelier option.

Toronto relievers allowed six runs (five earned) in Tuesday’s Game 3 loss, when the Yankees erased a five-run deficit to win 9-6.
