Los Angeles 2028 Aquatics Schedule: Triathlon Gets First Medals, Water Polo Gets Early Start
The schedule for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics dropped on Wednesday, 975 days away from the Opening Ceremony on July 14, 2028. It gives athletes aspiring to the games concrete targets to aim at, and can help athletes – swimmers especially – dial in their objectives.
Beyond swimming’s move to the second week of the slate and a nine-day schedule, here’s what the Los Angeles 2028 schedule has in store for the other aquatics sports.

Triathlon
Women’s triathlon gets pride of place as the first medal event of the 2028 Olympics. While several sports will play earlier, triathlon is the first medal event. The women’s individual race will be Saturday, July 15 at 7:30 a.m. at Venice Beach.
The men’s race will follow on Sunday, July 16, Day 2 of the Games. The mixed relay is July 20 (Day 6).
Open Water Swimming
The women’s 10-kilometer swim will take place at Belmont Shore on Day 3, Monday, July 17. The men’s marathon swim is a day later.
Both have the unusual start time of 1:30 p.m.
Water Polo
Water polo is one of the team sports that will begin two days before the Olympics properly open. The competition held at Long Beach Aquatics Center will feature three sessions of two prelims matches each per day. Water polo won’t play on Day 0, the Friday, July 14 day that hosts the Opening Ceremony.
The men’s matches come first, with quarterfinals on July 19 and the medal finals Saturday, July 22 (Day 8). The women’s finals are Sunday, July 23 (Day 9). The gold-medal matches are at 3 p.m. PT.
Both the men and women play semifinals on the same day, Day 7 of the Olympics.

Diving
Diving will be held at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena from July 16-28 with a two-day hiatus in the middle (so 11 days of competition). The first medals will be handed out on Day 3, the last on Day 14.

Artistic Swimming
Artistic swimming has to wait until the end of the Olympics, but those athletes are part of the busy final weekend.
Hosted as Long Beach Aquatics Center, the competition starts on Day 11 (July 25) with one event each day.
