WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus isn’t sugarcoating her feelings about the buildup to her WWE Evolution match against Tiffany Stratton—and she’s being brutally honest about how thrown together the event feels overall.
Stratus is set to challenge Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at Evolution 2 on July 13th at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. During an appearance on Notsam Wrestling, Trish opened up about how quickly the event came together, saying she understands the chaos given WWE’s current packed schedule.
“Unfortunately, yes it is — this entire (Evolution) card has seemed to be a quick turnaround as it is unfortunately and I get it, there’s like 7,000 events a month, it seems like.”
Despite the rush, Trish pointed out there’s at least a natural story going into her match with Stratton thanks to their similar backgrounds in wrestling—and the “Tiffy Time vs. Trishy Time” social media moments that caught fire.
“But I think there’s a little bit of a built-in storyline luckily for Tiffany (Stratton) and I. I love the fact that we had this connection and I think people really were digging the Trishy Time/Tiffy Time thing so I think that worked really well.”
She reflected on how both of them were underestimated early in their careers and had to over-deliver in the ring to prove their worth. That underdog arc is something Trish believes ties their careers together.
“There’s these two blondes who came into the business and preconceived notion on what they can deliver in the ring and having to prove (themselves)… She’s been champion at 25, and I know a certain someone who became champion for the first time at 25 as well…”
Still, Trish admitted she wishes the build was stronger and criticized a recent SmackDown segment featuring her, Stratton, and Jade Cargill for lacking energy.
“Do I wish there was a bigger build? Do I wish we had a longer segment? Do I wish we didn’t have a very boring segment last week on SmackDown? Sure.”
Stratus compared this to her feuds with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, both of which also had rushed buildups. In Becky’s case, Trish hinted that the program may have suffered due to repetitive promo time that ate into their momentum.
“There was moments in Becky and I’s feud where people did go on a little bit longer than maybe people liked. Maybe one too many promos about the same thing. I don’t know, maybe. That might have happened.”
Regardless of the timeline, Trish emphasized that what truly matters is the match itself—because that’s where she can take control and deliver something unforgettable.
“To me, the thing I control is the match. I will control the match, we will control the match. We will tell the story, we’ll control the narrative and that’s where I know I can do the work.”
“Yes, it (was thrown) together. We got a two-week — what is it? 10-day build?… I thought Charlotte (Flair) and I had a short build but again, it was great for the moment…”
Trish knows how to turn pressure into performance, and even with a rushed lead-up, she’s promising fans will get a show worth remembering.
