The Red Sox acquired Minor League catcher/first baseman from the Twins for utility infielder on Wednesday.

To make room for Gray on the 40-man roster, the Twins designated infielder for release or assignment. Bruján was claimed off waivers from Atlanta on Jan. 14.

The Red Sox’s 40-man roster is now at 39 after the addition of Baez. and are the other two catchers on Boston’s 40-man roster.

Selected in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Arizona State University, Baez has recorded a .788 OPS over four Minor League seasons in the Twins organization, advancing as high as Double-A.

Gray’s stint with the Red Sox wasn’t long; they acquired him from the Rays for right-hander Luis Guerrero in November. Gray has played in 47 MLB games since his debut in 2023, slashing .207/.264/.369 while making appearances with the Rays, Marlins and Athletics.

The Rice University product also has spent time with the Pirates, who took him in the 13th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, and the White Sox.
