Tuesday Headlines: Bruce Pearl retires from college basketball

by

Good morning, BBN!

Monday was the first day of official practice for college basketball as the Kentucky Wildcats and Mark Pope kicked off his second season in Lexington. However, for one SEC program, it comes with a complete reset.

First reported by Jeff Borzello, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has decided to retire. His son, Steven, has now taken over as the head coach of the Tigers.

Pearl is no stranger to the BBN after spending the majority of his career coaching at both Auburn and Tennessee. He was also a rather popular name among the fanbase last offseason as the guy to take over the UK program, before the higher-ups at the university vetoed that phone call.

Despite your feelings about him, you can’t deny his success as a head coach. Ending his career with a 706-268 record, he helped turn an Auburn program around that has been historically irrelevant in the sport. He also won a DII National Championship during his time in Evansville at the University of Southern Indiana.

Going to be different watching the Cats play in The Jungle this season.
