Texas A&M rose to No. 10 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 after defeating Notre Dame 41-40 in South Bend, which ended up being one of the most exciting games of the year thus far. Behind starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s 360 passing yards, including 207 of those yards to transfer wide receiver Mario Craver, who is now leading the country in receiving yards (443) after three games.
This duo, combined with former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion, could vault the Aggies into the College Football Playoff if the defense improves after allowing over 400 yards and 40 points, which will never be accepted by head coach Mike Elko, who actually threw a chair in anger during the first half of Saturday’s matchup.

The assumption, mainly due to Elko calling defensive plays, is that these issues will eventually be solved, meaning Marcel Reed and the offense will need to continue to lead the team in every game, knowing that SEC offenses can easily put up 30 points on any given Saturday.
After his performance, which included 37 yards rushing, former Baylor quarterback and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III placed Marcel Reed as his top Heisman frontrunner after his performance against the Fighting Irish, likely seeing himself in the way Reed has developed into a confident pocket passer who can easily take off and gain chunk yards on the ground. However, Reed isn’t the only Aggie Griffin feels could take home the most prestigious piece of collegiate hardware; wide receiver Mario Craver is also on his top 10 list after Week 3.
Here is his complete list:
-
Texas Tech- Behren Morton
-
Ohio State- Jeremiah Smith
If Marcel Reed and Carson Beck continue throwing with confidence and accuracy, I wouldn’t be shocked if both former four-star prospects make their way to New York City. Still, every name listed is in a similar situation, leading to elite or close-to-elite offenses that are all hoping to make it to the College Football Playoff.
