Tyson Fury is back like he never left.
It’s been pattern for Fury over the span of his legendary career. Sunday’s announcement marks the fifth time he’s announced his retirement and then later returned.

Fury’s most recent departure from the sport came nearly one year ago in a “short and sweet” video posted to Instagram. Fury’s history of not upholding such a proclamation had many thinking he would one day fight again – and now it looks like they were correct.
“2026 is that year Return of the mac,” Fury wrote on Instagram. “Been away for a while but im back now, 37 years old and still punching. nothing better to do than punch 🥊 men in the face & get paid for it
Fury, 37, is coming off back-to-back losses to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, the current lineal heavyweight boxing champion. Both defeats came by way of decision, though one was unanimous and one was split. They marked the only losses of Fury’s career.
It’s unclear who Fury could fight next, though a long-desired bout between him and Anthony Joshua was rumored just prior to his most recent hiatus.

It’s also unknown exactly what kind of fight shape Fury is in or when he plans to return. Saturday, he posted a training video, catching the attention of many for what appeared to be additional weight put on. Losing excess weight is nothing new for Fury, however, who has underwent extreme body transformations after periods of inactivity in the past.
