UConn women’s basketball team begins its title defense Tuesday.
No. 1 UConn is set to open the 2025-26 women’s college basketball season against the No. 19 Louisville Cardinals in the Armed Forces Classic at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland (5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). The top-25 matchup was to be played at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, but was relocated stateside amid the ongoing government shutdown.

The Huskies, who are ranked No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll, are looking to repeat as champions for the first time since 2015-2016. The Huskies are 43-8 all-time in season openers and have won 29 in a row.
UConn lost three-time All-American Paige Bueckers to graduation, but returns senior guard Azzi Fudd, sophomore sensation Sarah Strong (WBCA Freshman of the Year), in addition to KK Arnold, Jana El-Alfy and Ice Brady from their championship squad. As if the program wasn’t already loaded, the Huskies added transfers Serah Williams (Wisconsin), Kayleigh Heckel (USC) and incoming freshmen Kelis Fisher, Gandy Malou-Mamel and Blanca Quinonez.
