A 2-0 week that featured a pair of victories over SEC teams was not enough for UConn men’s basketball to move up in this week’s AP poll, as the 10-1 Huskies stayed at No. 5 for the third week in a row. UConn got revenge on Tuesday over then-No. 18 Florida in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden, then closed its non-conference slate with a home win over Texas on Friday night.
St. John’s is once again the only other Big East school to join the Huskies in the top 25, at No. 22, but Seton Hall and Villanova also received votes. Arizona, UConn’s only loss of the season, remains at No. 1 after defeating Alabama in a neutral-site game in convincing fashion. The Huskies have four wins this season against teams currently ranked in the poll in No. 10 BYU, No. 17 Illinois, No. 18 Kansas, and No. 23 Florida.

The Huskies open up Big East play this week with a pair of matchups before Christmas. Butler comes to Hartford on Tuesday night fresh off a double overtime victory against Providence in its conference opener on Saturday. Then, UConn makes its first conference road trip of the year when it visits DePaul in Chicago on Sunday.
Looking at net rating, UConn dropped one spot from a week ago to No. 8 despite the 2-0 record and picking up another Quad One win over Florida. Butler, No. 43 in NET, will be a Quad Two opportunity, and DePaul (No. 147 in NET) is likely going to be a Quad Three game. In KenPom, UConn ranks No. 7 overall, No. 17 in offensive efficiency and No. 8 in defensive efficiency.
