UConn women’s basketball started fast and never looked back in an 88-43 win over the St. John’s Red Storm at PeoplesBank Arena on Wednesday. The Huskies led wire-to-wire and outscored the visitors in every quarter.
Sarah Strong finished with a game-high 24 points on an efficient 11-15 shooting while also totaling six steals and five assists. KK Arnold reached double-figures for just the third time this season with 11 points to go with six steals and four assists. Azzi Fudd added 16 points — remaining perfect from the line on the campaign with a 6-6 performance — while Blanca Quiñonez helped out with 14 points.

UConn forced 33 turnovers and converted them into 46 points the other way. The Huskies also racked up 52 points in the paint and 25 in transition.
Jana El Alfy sat out with a concussion after getting hit in the head with a ball in practice on Tuesday while Ayanna Patterson remained sidelined with a concussion as well.
The Huskies dominated from the opening tip. They started 9-9 from the field and forced a turnover on the Red Storm’s first four trips up the court. Nearly five minutes elapsed in the contest before UConn failed to score on a possession.
After that furious start, the Huskies cooled down in the second quarter. They went over three minutes without a basket while St. John’s put together an 8-0 run to get within 13. UConn then recovered control with a 15-0 burst while holding the Red Storm to just one basket over the final five minutes of the half.

The Huskies went into the locker room with a 50-22 lead.
Out of the break, St. John’s scored the first basket of the second half before UConn responded with six straight points. The teams then traded 3-pointers for a few possessions before the Huskies ripped off a 10-0 spurt to extend the lead past 40.
UConn scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and ultimately cruised to a 45-point win.
With the victory, the Huskies improve to 16-0 on the season and 7-0 in Big East play. Next, they’ll travel to play Creighton on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET on truTV.
