Already considered a future UFC Hall of Famer and likely all-time pound-for-pounder, Islam Makhachev cemented that status this past Saturday.
A few months after he vacated the lightweight title to move up to welterweight to chase a second belt, Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) dominated Jack Della Maddalena (18-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), who had the title for only a half-year, in the UFC 322 main event at Madison Square Garden in New York. Makhachev became the 11th two-division champion in UFC history.

Along with that title fight at UFC 322, Valentina Shevchenko (26-4-1 MMA, 15-3-1 UFC) kept Zhang Weili (26-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) from joining Makhachev as a two-division champion when she won a dominant decision in the co-feature to defend the women’s flyweight title.
